To the Student:
Dear Student, I've met a lot of students who want to excel in Math. They study hard, but “blank out” during a test. Sometimes, they understand the lessons in class, but have a hard time solving the problems on their own. Or they realize that what comes out in the exam is different from what they see in the book. Because of this, they resign themselves to being “just not good with numbers”. I find this surprising, because throughout my schooling, I've gotten A's in Math. And this is despite the fact that my IQ in Math is only “average” . As I look back, I realize that I was lucky: I knew what I had to do to get that “A”. Unlike any other subject, doing well in Math requires certain factors: good fundamentals, insightful teaching, unlocking “mental barriers”, skill honed through practice, and so on. If there are “gaps” in any of these, a person struggles with Math, and any ordinary person might not be able to help.
